Chapter 7 explains specific ways that a person is able to cite the sources that they are using in their paper. One way that I am mostly familiar with is parenthetical citations since that how I was taught to give credit to outside sources. I find parenthetical citations to be the easiest way to cite sources because it leaves little room for error, where other ways such as paraphrasing can have mistakes. Though you’re only summarizes what the original source said, instead of quoting it word for word, it is still required that you give credit because you didn’t come up with that idea all on your on. When in high school, I was taught the dos and don’ts of citing and how easy it is to accidentally plagiarize someone else’s work. The examples of plagiarism that I was shown in high school mostly consisted of scenarios where the person paraphrased their source but neglected to give any substantial credit. But in the chapter it gives an example of how to easily give credit. Just by simply using the phrases “according to. . .” or “(Insert source) argues/stated,” are ways to give the deserved to credit to whatever source is being used in your essay.
