Project 2 Proposal
If I ever said that I have always loved animals, that would be a complete and utter lie. Growing up, I went through a three-year long streak of detesting animals, especially dogs. I thought I would never want to have my own pet until I saw the movie Marley and Me, and during the time of seeing the movie I was experiencing bullying. The movie, in a way, served as an epiphany for me because it portrayed just how loving and caring animals, dogs in particular, could be. And then to strengthen this newfound love for animals, I remember seeing an ASPCA commercial on television for the first time. Seeing what these animals had to endure, being abused by their previous owners and sometimes left on the streets for dead, angered me. These animals were being mistreated for absolutely no reason and in a way, I was able to relate to these poor animals. As I discussed in my previous paper, I experienced bullying in my childhood and I would think that I didn’t belong, and the same thing goes for these animals. Ever since I saw that commercial, I developed a strong love for rescue animals and dreamed of opening my own rescue shelter in the future. And that is the community that I feel myself being drawn to more and more. I really want to focus my research on how rescue shelters are started and operate, in terms of rescuing the animals as well as caring for them. Though the dream of opening my own rescue shelter is far into the future, I do hope to get my foot in the door by starting to volunteer at a local shelter in the fall.
